General Information::
A hernia is the abnormal exit of tissue or an organ, such as the bowel, through the wall of the cavity in which it normally resides. Hernias do not heal on their own. Usually surgical repair is recommended for treating hernias. The purpose of the surgery is to return bulging tissue to its proper place, and then repair the defect in the abdomen with stitches or a mesh patch to prevent the hernia returning.
